Born in Surat.
There is a particular kind of obsession that doesn't announce itself. It builds slowly — in long conversations, in the accumulated disappointment of spending serious money on foreign perfumes that last three hours, in the stubborn belief that India should be able to make something better. That's how AURĒ started.
Prayag and Rahul met in college in Surat. Prayag was an environmental engineering student who fell in love with code and became an SDE2. Rahul was in IT, dropped out, and built himself into a copywriter. Neither of them had any business building a molecular perfume lab. That turned out to matter less than the fact that they both wanted to.
We made mistakes for the better part of a year. Fourteen formulas that didn't work. Three that did. When the process finally produced results we could stand behind in blind testing, we didn't celebrate. We went back into the lab and tested again.
We're still two people working out of Surat. Every bottle is made here. Every formula is ours. Gravity, Lucid, Bloom — three fragrances that didn't exist before 2024. This whole thing started because we loved perfume and couldn't find what we were looking for. That hasn't changed.
Three things we don't compromise on.
Molecular precision
A fragrance at 42% extrait concentration behaves differently on different skin. We test every formula across multiple skin types before it leaves the lab. The scent you buy has been worn, lived in, and corrected dozens of times.
Honest materials
We tell you exactly what's in each bottle. Bio-synthetic compounds are not a compromise — in many cases they are more precise and more stable than naturals. We use them when they're better. We use naturals when they're better. We don't have a fixed ideology about it.
India, without apology
We didn't move to Paris to be taken seriously. We stayed in Surat, and we built something serious here. Our ingredients, our people, our process — all of it is Indian. That's not a marketing decision. It's just true.
The laboratory opens.
Prayag and Rahul rent a lab space in Surat. Both are working other jobs. Neither has a chemistry degree. The first three months produce nothing usable. They keep going.
The formula, cracked.
After fourteen iterations, the molecular synthesis process produces results indistinguishable from natural sources in blind testing. The two of them smell it at the same time. Gravity. Lucid. Bloom are now real.
The first three.
Gravity, Lucid, and Bloom are complete. Prayag and Rahul wear them for three months — to work, on weekends, through Surat summers — before anyone else is allowed to. Then they open.
AURĒ opens.
The house is open. We are still the same size we were on day one. We intend to stay that way for a while.
